The Prince Creek Formation of northern Alaska is recognized as the richest polar dinosaur locality in either hemisphere. Whether these dinosaurs were capable of reproducing in the Arctic is a long-standing problem, and intimately tied to the question of dinosaur migration. Recent discoveries along the Colville River provide exciting new evidence that both herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs nested in the high Arctic at approximately 80 degrees north latitude. This suggests that the Prince Creek dinosaurs were year round residents of the Arctic and raises more questions about how they survived long polar winters that experienced up to 4 months of complete winter darkness.
